(2.2C) Collect Data
Overview
The student is expected to collect data from observations using simple equipment such as hand lenses, primary balances, thermometers, and non-standard measurement tools.
-
Hand Lenses
By observing common objects through a hand lens, students develop important observational skills and also learn about magnification.
-
Primary Balances
Balances are used to measure or compare the weight or mass of different objects. The activities in this section help student learn to use a balance.
-
Thermometers
What is the difference between temperature and thermometer? Here, students learn how to use a thermometer to measure temperature changes in a variety of ways.
-
Non-standard Measurement
Any standard-sized object can be used as a relative measurement tool. In this Signature Lesson, students use candy bar and toothpick measures to build their understandings about units and measurement.
