About Us

Super STAAR is a complete elementary science teaching resource created and maintained by the Center for Educational Outreach at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). Super STAAR is organized by grade level and science topic, and is mapped to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for science.

All resources on the site are reviewed for scientific accuracy and pedagogical appropriateness by an experienced team of scientists, educators and science editors. Many Super STAAR resources have been developed and piloted by the Center for Educational Outreach. Other exemplary content, from sources such as NASA and the National Institutes of Health, also are linked from Super STAAR.

Faculty and staff members in BCM’s Center for Educational Outreach develop science teaching materials, provide teacher professional development, guide scientist-teacher partnerships and create web-based resources to improve science teaching and learning at all grade levels.

BCM’s website BioEd Online (www.bioedonline.org) has been identified as an official finalist for the Webby awards in education and, along its sister site, K8 Science (www.k8science.org), received a Science Prize for Online Resources in Education from the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2010.
