Overview
Earth’s surface is subject to constant changes. The planet also undergoes cycles related to the Sun and the Moon. Students learn about these patterns and cycles and how they fit into the changes Earth has experienced over time.

(5.7) Earth's Surface and Resources
Students explore how the Earth’s surface constantly changes and how this leads to the formation of sedimentary rocks, fossil fuels, and certain landforms. Students also learn about alternative energy resources and fossils.

(5.8) Earth, Sun and Moon Patterns
By developing a deeper understanding of what causes day and night and the apparent movement of the Sun, students learn about patterns and cycles in the natural world and what causes them. Students also learn about the Sun’s role in the water cycle, the physical properties of the Sun, Earth, and Moon, and to differentiate between weather and climate.
