Physical Science
Overview
Students learn about physical properties of different materials, and the importance of light, heat, and sound energy to their everyday lives. Students also observe and record changes in the location and motion of objects.

(1.5) Matter and Energy
Students learn how to classify objects based on their observable properties, and to predict changes caused by heating and cooling.

(1.6) Force, Motion and Energy
Forces and energy are present in everyday life. First grade students explore ideas related to common uses of light, heat and sound energy; predict how a magnet can be used to push or pull an object; and observe and record changes in the movement of an object.
