Overview
Students explore how the Earth’s surface constantly changes and how this leads to the formation of sedimentary rocks, fossil fuels, and certain landforms. Students also learn about alternative energy resources and fossils.

(5.7A) Formation of Rocks and Fossil Fuels
The student is expected to explore the processes that led to the formation of sedimentary rocks and fossil fuels.

(5.7B) Changes in Landforms from Weathering and Erosion
Recognize how landforms such as deltas, canyons, and sand dunes are the result of changes to Earth’s surface by wind, water and ice.

(5.7C) Alternative Energy Resources
Identify alternative energy resources such as wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal, and biofuels.

(5.7D) Fossils
The student is expected to identify fossils as evidence of past living organisms and the nature of the environments at the time using models.
