(3.6) Force, Motion and Energy
Overview
Energy is an important theme in elementary school. Third grade students learn that energy exists in many forms, such as mechanical, light, sound and thermal energy, and that these forms can be observed in everyday life. Students explore changes in motion and position by pushing and pulling objects, such as swings, balls and wagons. Third grade students also learn how magnets and gravity act on objects.

The student is expected to explore different forms of energy, including mechanical, light, sound, and heat/thermal in everyday life.

(3.6B) Changes in Motion and Position
The student is expected to demonstrate and observe how position and motion can be changed by pushing and pulling objects to show work being done such as swings, balls, pulleys, and wagons.

(3.6C) Types of Forces
The student is expected to observe forces such as magnetism and gravity acting on objects.
