Overview
Third graders implement science investigation techniques to recognize objects in the sky affect patterns and cycles on Earth. They also build an understanding about how patterns, cycles, and events affect the surface of the Earth and how the planet provides resources used by humans.

(3.7) Resources and Changes in Earth Surface
Students learn about Earth’s natural resources, its landforms, and how its surface changes. They also explore how soils are formed, and how natural resources are used to make products.

(3.8) Patterns in Natural Systems
By observing weather changes, students recognize patterns and cycles in weather information. They also understand the relationship between the Sun, Earth, and Moon, as well as the planets that make up the solar system.
