The student is expected to explore how structures and functions of plants and animals allow them to survive in a particular environment.

Plant Adaptations
Lessons in this section introduce students to adaptations that help plants survive and reproduce in different environments. Some adaptations are structural, such as leaf shape or flower size and color. Other adaptations are related to growth and other functions, such whether a plant can tolerate hot, dry conditions or the timing of seed production.

Animal Adaptations
Different animal species have evolved traits that enhance their abilities to survive and reproduce in particular environments. This section looks at animal adaptations to a variety of habitats.
