(1.5A) Physical Properties of Matter
Overview
The student will classify objects by observable properties of the materials from which they are made such as larger and smaller, heavier and lighter, shape, color, and texture.
Several important concepts are embedded within this TEKS objective. Each concept is presented on its own page (see links below).
-
Color
Students learn about how primary colors mix together to form secondary colors so they can better understand color as an observable property of materials.
-
Size and Mass
Students compare two objects to explore size and mass as observable properties of objects.
-
Shape
By practicing pattern recognition and classification students explore the shape property of materials.
-
Texture
Students explore, describe, and classify different textures to better understand this property of materials.
